Matching Labubu Tattoos

Every tattoo tells a story, and some stories are too special not to share. Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting two twin sisters who chose to commemorate their unbreakable bond with matching Labubu Monster tattoos. Labubu, the quirky and beloved character created by Kasing Lung, has been gaining immense popularity among art and collectible enthusiasts. For these sisters, it wasn’t just about getting inked—it was about celebrating their shared love for this iconic character and the memories they’ve built together.

Their journey brought life, laughter, and a little Labubu magic to our studio, and we can’t wait to share the process and meaning behind their matching designs. Whether you're already a fan of Labubu or curious to learn more, this story will give you a glimpse into why this character is stealing hearts—and finding its way into tattoos!

Who (or What) Is Labubu?

Labubu is a whimsical and mischievous character from the imaginative universe of Kasing Lung, a celebrated Hong Kong-based artist. Known for its big toothy grin and playful personality, Labubu has captured the hearts of fans worldwide. It’s a staple in the designer toy community, with collectors flocking to own its various figures and merchandise. Labubu’s charm lies in its quirky, expressive nature, making it a perfect representation of individuality and fun.

Why Labubu Tattoos Are Trending

Labubu has transcended its origins in designer toys to become a symbol of creativity and individuality. As tattoo trends lean toward more personal and meaningful designs, Labubu’s rise in popularity isn’t surprising. Its playful aesthetic appeals to both tattoo enthusiasts and pop culture fans alike, making it a versatile choice for body art.

From minimalistic outlines to colorful, intricate portraits, Labubu tattoos can be customized to fit a variety of styles. The character’s expressive nature also makes it an excellent way to convey personality through art. For these sisters, Labubu’s mischievous grin felt like a perfect tribute to their playful dynamic.

Original Pricing and Resale Value

Labubu, the whimsical character from Kasing Lung's universe, has seen a significant surge in popularity, leading to notable changes in its market dynamics. Initially, Labubu figures were accessible at retail prices ranging from $85 to $167, depending on the edition and size. However, as demand intensified, resale prices soared. For instance, in Thailand, the resale price for a blind box peaked at 3,000 baht (approximately $85), while a big box reached up to 20,000 baht (around $570).  In Malaysia, collectors reported spending close to RM2,000 (about $475) on their Labubu collections, with limited editions priced around RM600 (approximately $143) each.

Emergence of Dupes and Counterfeits

The skyrocketing demand and escalating resale prices have unfortunately led to a proliferation of counterfeit Labubu products. Markets, both physical and online, have been flooded with imitation figures sold at a fraction of the original price. In Bangkok's Chinatown, for example, fake Labubu toys have become increasingly prevalent, with some being sold for as low as 550 Mexican pesos (around $30).

Impact on Collectors and the Market

The influx of counterfeit products poses challenges for genuine collectors and enthusiasts. Not only do these dupes undermine the value of authentic Labubu figures, but they also create confusion in the market, making it difficult for buyers to distinguish between genuine and fake items.

Young twin sisters Lily and Thanh Nguyen have been devoted fans of Labubu Monsters from the very beginning. Despite the challenge of finding these elusive collectibles, they’ve managed to curate an impressive collection, owning every Labubu release to date. Their dedication reflects the passionate Labubu collector community, which has faced its share of challenges, including a rise in Labubu-related theft—from pickpocketing to smashed car windows. In response, collectors have formed Facebook groups to share alerts and protect their treasures.

Over time, Labubu Monsters, like any cherished item, show signs of wear and tear. Many collectors purchase tiny outfits, protective clear cases, or other accessories to preserve their beloved sidekicks. But Lily and Thanh chose a more permanent way to honor their love for Labubu: they got matching tattoos.

We’re absolutely here for it. Their decision is bold and beautiful—a testament to their fearless commitment to capturing meaningful memories. While some outsiders may dismiss this as “silly” or speculate about potential regret once the Labubu hype fades, we see it differently.

To us, it’s not about the brand or the figures themselves. It’s about the memories—the people, places, and moments that make life extraordinary. Why not celebrate the things that bring you joy and leave a lasting mark, both figuratively and literally? In this fleeting journey called life, embracing what makes you happy is always worth it. Thank you Lily and Thanh for trusting us with your beautiful beautiful vision. We look forward to seeing where your journey takes you!
